You will learn the history, technique, and materials used in creating and completing your very own 9x12 inch traditionally water gilded frame. We will learn how to make rabbit skin glue, which is the base for gesso and bole applied to the frame. After applying 10-12 layers of gesso we will go over sanding techniques and apply various colors of bole. We will learn how to prepare the frame for water gilding and how to apply karat leaf to the frame. After burnishing we will begin to rub back the gold and go over various toning techniques including shellac, casien, and japan paint, as well as waxes. A list of supplies and suppliers will be provided, including an application to the Society of Gilders.

No experience is required.
